About Calcagno Maps
Calcagno Maps Co. is an independent cartography and publishing project created by Michael Calcagno, a transit enthusiast and mapmaker focused on rail systems, track layouts, and transit design history. His work explores how different mapping styles, eras, and design philosophies can be applied to modern transit systems while remaining readable, accurate, and visually engaging.
All maps featured on this site are original works created by Michael, often inspired by historical transit maps and established design traditions from cities around the world. These maps are created for educational, artistic, and enthusiast audiences.
Michael is currently working on his first book, Tracks of the Chicago L, a detailed reference documenting the physical track layout, infrastructure, and historical evolution of Chicago’s rapid transit system.
Michael lives in Sacramento, California, where he continues to research, design, and publish transit maps alongside his 29-year career as a USPS letter carrier.
